System Maintenance

A water distribution system requires two types of maintenance: preventive maintenance to assure that each component is operating efficiently, and replacing components at the end of their useful life. Because water distribution systems are so large, a maintenance cycle (such as exercising all valves) can take more than a year, and replacing pipe can take decades. Note that Los Angeles’ water  mains are on a 300 year replacement cycle.
