Each year, Helix Water District offers two college scholarships to outstanding high school seniors. The Dr. Lillian M. Childs and Robert D. Friedgen scholarships provide $1,000 to help with freshman year expenses.
To be eligible, students must live in Helix Water District’s service area, graduate from high school this spring and attend a four-year college or university next fall. Helix serves La Mesa, El Cajon, Lemon Grove, Spring Valley and unincorporated areas around these communities. To apply, students must complete the following:
Answer the questions in the application regarding extracurricular activities, community service and work experience
Write a two-page essay answering the questions, “What is potable reuse and East County Advanced Water Purification?”
Write a one-page statement describing their goals and plans after high school
Provide two letters of recommendation
Provide an official high school transcript
