In October the district’s board of directors approved rate increases that will appear on customer bills beginning January 1, 2016. The average district customer will see an increase of approximately $6 per month as a result. The rate increase was primarily driven by the impacts of the drought and the rising cost of imported water. Of note, these rates already cover the costs associated with the Carlsbad desalination plant, which began commercial operation this week.
